Course Introduction
The history of the Golf de Morfontaine dates back to October 1913, when the Duke of Guiche obtained his father's permission to convert an old polo field in the Parc de Vallière into a 6-hole golf course for the amusement of the Duke and his friends. The new 18-hole layout was redesigned by Tom Simpson at the back.
At 6,001 metres from the back tees and a par of 70, the Morfontaine is not the longest course in France. Few of the fairway bunkers will really test your club selection off the tee, but what the course lacks in this area it makes up for with its strategic approach shots. Most of the large, undulating greens are protected by bunkers, and with the wrong club choice, there is a high chance that the ball will fall into a bunker.
After a gentle but lengthy opening par four and two par threes at the 2nd and 4th holes, the challenge really begins, with the 7th, 8th and 9th holes being particularly difficult par threes. The theme of high quality continues on the back nine, with the 13th being one of the prettiest short par 3s we've ever seen.
