Course Introduction

Royal Valderrama also hosted the Volvo Masters, the European Tour's season finale, 16 times between 1988 and 2008, as well as the inaugural World Golf Championships - the American Express Championships in 1999 and 2000, and the Valderrama Masters of Andalucía, a key event on the European Tour (2010 to 2011 and 2017 to 2022).

The finishing holes are always described as difficult with a capital ‘T’, but if you choose your tees wisely from the outset, it's a very playable course for most levels of golfer (the maximum handicap allowed at Valderrama is 24 for men and 32 for women). The 17th hole is naturally the most memorable. Known as Los Gabiones, it used to be a long par 5 until water was installed in front of the green.
