Course Introduction

The new Sunningdale ground was designed by the famous architect Harry Colt and first opened in 1923. The course was commissioned at the end of the First World War. The new course is considered to be more rugged than its older counterpart, with fewer bunkers and trees. The narrow, winding fairways are lined with punishing heather and serve as corridors to the small, often raised greens.

Over the years, the new course has proved itself worthy of hosting any championship, with many of the world's top players having graced these fairways. Past winner of the Dunlop PGA 90 Hole Championship, Gary Player, returned to the course in 2000 to play Jack Nicklaus as part of the club's centenary celebrations.

If it's a true sporting challenge that Parkour golfers are after, then the rugged 6,700 yard par 70 new course will provide a stern test, with the new course being tougher and more comprehensive than the old. There are a number of excellent and memorable holes on the new course, perhaps not as many as on the old, but the 5th is definitely worth mentioning, a stunning par 3. The public views through the treetops into the distance are spectacular. The new course has long been recognised as the best inland course in the UK.
