Course Introduction
Walton Heath Golf Club is a golf club in England, located near Walton Hill in Surrey, south-west London. It is where links golf meets inland golf. There are no salty sea breezes here, but the course plays and feels like links by the sea. Masses of heather grow along the edges of the fairways. In the summer, when the heather is in full bloom, it looks like an absolute treat, but playing is a real challenge. The greens are true and fast, undulating making it difficult to see the course and the speed of the putt.
This course is suitable for lower handicap golfers. Some of the fairways are quite long through the heather and if you don't hit the fairway, you usually won't be able to find your ball. There are some very firm holes on the Old Course - one of the best of the outer nine is the fifth, a 391-yard par four that requires a solid shot that must avoid the thick, tangled heather that covers the fairway. A mid-iron approach shot will hit the green, which is protected by bunkers on the left and right.
