Course Introduction
Built in 1894, Royal St David's Golf Course has long been ranked in the ‘Top 50’ golf courses in the UK, 2nd in Golf World's Top 50 Golf Courses in Wales and in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World by Golf Digest. The setting is unrivalled and the golfing challenge is equally magnificent: over the years, nearly 80 national or international championships have been held at Harlech.
The first twelve holes are completely exposed to the elements, travelling back and forth over fairly flat, sometimes open ground. Upon reaching the 13th hole, the landscape changes dramatically into rolling dune country. The 15th is a par 4 with no bunkers and requires a long drive from an elevated tee across the dunes to a narrow fairway with Snowdon Hill in the distance. A decent tee shot requires a semi-blind shot to reach the raised green between the dunes. There may be a quick glimpse of the Irish Sea from the 16th tee before turning back inland to the clubhouse. Unusually, Royal St David's finishes with a fairly ordinary but tough 200-yard par three with the green directly in front of the clubhouse.
