Course Introduction
The Country Club Course at Durban Country Club is recognised as one of the finest courses of its kind in South Africa and is listed as one of the top 100 golf courses. It has hosted 17 South African Opens, more than any other course in the world. Durban is located in KwaZulu-Natal's most stunning seaside play area. Amidst the hustle and bustle of this bustling city, there is the peace and tranquillity of the Durban Country Club. Its country club course is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, tucked away behind a large sand dune, with holes winding through thick and spectacular tropical vegetation.
Many consider the first five holes played at Durban Country Club to be the best way to start a golfing career. The first hole is an 18-hole par four, measuring 390 metres from the top of the fairway, a challenging start to any round.
The deafening sound of the Indian Ocean waves is clearly visible from the challenging par three second hole at the top of the hill. The green is small and elevated and is surrounded by a bunker four, where the shot leads into the third hole, an absolutely breathtaking par five set in a valley within the dunes. The terrain on the back nine is flatter than the rollercoaster terrain of the front nine, but the back nine is certainly a nice course.
