Course Introduction
Located on the rugged Atlantic coast in the south-west of Ireland, this course features towering dunes, undulating fairways, tough long grass areas and cliff-top tees and greens. Designed and built by Arnold Palmer, this stunning course is a true paradise for those willing to take on the challenge of what is widely regarded as one of the finest links courses in the world.
The club's front nine lies on a fairly flat links course, but the majority of the holes hug the coastline with elevated ground, offering magnificent views from the cliff tops to the Atlantic Ocean across Tralee Bay. The back nine runs over hills and through ravines to plateau greens.
The third hole, known as ‘The Castle’, is considered the signature hole, a par 3, nearly 200 yards from the back tees. From the landscape, it is spectacular, reminiscent of the 7th hole at Pebble Beach. Walk around the abandoned castle that stands to the left and back of the green - any shot that hits the right side of the green will be swallowed up by the rocks and the sea.
The 17th hole is known as ‘Ryan's Daughter’ because of the powerful scene in the award-winning film and because it will live long in the memory; on this 355-yard par 4, an elevated tee shot must be driven through a canyon to a rugged fairway before hitting the ball to a small raised tabletop! green.
