Course Introduction
The Golf Club of Australia is a private members club located 6km from the centre of Sydney's CBD. Established in 1882, the Australian Golf Club is the oldest golf club in the Commonwealth of Australia. The course is situated in a large sandy basin that is constantly buffeted by the wind. The course is sparsely wooded and reminds Australians of sunken Walton Heath with its elevated plateau greens and huge bunkers.
It has hosted no fewer than 21 Australian Open tennis tournaments, with the inaugural Australian Open held here in 1904, the Australian Men's Open in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023, and the Australian Women's Open in 2023. The Australian Open is an extremely solid championship venue and there is no doubt that the course will be used to host golf championships for many years to come.
