Course Introduction
Located in the Gulf suburb of Bunbidge, just 30 kilometres from Melbourne, Patterson River Golf Club is a golfing oasis adjacent to the famous Melbourne Sandbelt. Patterson River boasts a quality course with picturesque water features and a striking course layout with holes designed to both challenge and encourage any golfer.
The 18-hole layout at Patterson River Country Club was redesigned by Phil Ryan and is based on the old course built by Gordon Oliver in 1925. During the new construction process, the course excavated a large lake and replaced dozens of non-native trees. James Wilcher has since been asked to develop a new masterplan for the course.
The fairways were designed as two 9-hole loops. The scorecard shows that half of the holes are water-related, with water challenges whether you're teeing off or hitting close to the green. Highlights include the short par 4s on the 3rd and 11th; the 130 metre shortest par 3 on the 12th (from an island tee in the middle of a small lake); and the final par 5, with a narrow lake on the left side of the fairway and a small pond on the other side, near the home green.
