Course Introduction
Shepperton Golf Club is located just five kilometres from the centre of Shepperton, Victoria. It is situated in a peaceful rural setting on the banks of the majestic Goulburn River.
Shepperton Golf Club began in 1922 with a fairly modest course of ‘nine sand holes’, but the club mentions that prior to this ‘Shepperton's early golf courses’ were on "Knight Street, Knight Street, Barker Avenue and Clive Street", near the present site of Notre Dame College.
In 1926, the course was expanded to 14 holes, and six years later, four more holes were added to the course as additional land was acquired. It was more than thirty years later that Sam Berryman designed a new course layout after acquiring another piece of land. The total area of the course was still tight, totalling no more than 90 acres.
The new clubhouse and course were unveiled in 1959. Twenty years later, an ambitious plan - to build a boutique motel on the course - was finally realised. It then took the club another ten years until 1999 to complete a ten-year upgrade programme to upgrade the putting surfaces from bunkers to grass greens.
Highlights include the short par-4 6th, which requires a blind tee shot before the fairway turns left towards the green; the long par-4 10th, which has a par rating of 1 and is also dogleg left; and the 352-metre 18th, which has an out-of-bounds area on the right side of the fairway and backs up to the local cemetery.
