Course Introduction
East Lakes Golf Club is one of Sydney's lesser-known courses and sits in the shadow of three highly regarded Sandbelt courses. Set on two narrow strips of sand, East Lakes Golf Club has recently polished its course and is poised to become a golfing heavyweight to be considered in New South Wales.
The club was founded in 1930 with just nine holes. The following year, the course was upgraded to an 18-hole course. Today, the course measures over 5,800 metres from the back tees. The par is 72 (37 metres on the front nine and 35 metres on the back).
The first hole on this par 3 course does not begin until the ninth, a 174 metre hole (‘Wee Burn’). Holes 5-13 are on a separate piece of land and can be reached by bridges over the main road.
Highlights of the East Lake course include the dogleg par 18th hole (‘Devil's Elbow’), which plays through a wide expanse of moorland to an offset green. There is also the par-5 15th hole (‘Hooker's Horror’), where the fairway narrows dramatically as it reaches a green covered in thick sand.
