Course Introduction

The 18 holes at Coinda Waters are built on reclaimed wetlands, so the course is relatively flat but particularly challenging over water. Some of the water hazards are well-marked, but others are hidden from view, so players will need to take extra care when planning their routing from tee to green.

Wooden railway sleepers are used as wall barriers (particularly on the island green on the short par 17th) and also to line many of the bunkers, adding a touch of rustic charm to the layout. Opinions are divided on the use of this wooden design technique - some like the character it adds to the course, others feel it is overly contrived - but these debates are nothing compared to the controversy surrounding the Waters of Cooindar Hole #3.

This par-4 3rd hole, which golfers either love or hate, is controversial in its own design. With its dogleg left, water on the right and a tree in the centre of the fairway in the drop zone, many see it as an unfair handicap, while others see it as an excellent strategic design.
