Course Introduction
Located on the southern end of Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast, Caloundra Golf Club was originally built in 1951 as a 9-hole course. In 1966, Al Howard added a further 9 holes, culminating in the current 18-hole course. In the early 1980s, Ross Watson made some improvements to the course to bring it up to championship standard.
Open champion Ian Baker-Finch completed a traineeship at the club in 1978 and returned to win the Pro-Am in 1985, adding his name to a list that includes PGA Tour winners Marc Leishman and Steven Bowditch.
In recent years, several irrigation ponds have been built, the most notable of which is the "Boggy Creek" that runs along the left side of the 388-metre 3rd hole, currently rated as a 1 on the scorecard.
Highlights include the 155-meter-long No. 2 and the 157-meter-long No. 6, both par 3s that encounter water during play. The most difficult hole on the back nine is the 412-meter-long No. 18, which doglegs left from tee to green until the end.
