Course Introduction
Known locally as the ‘Jewel of the North’, Wanneroo Golf Club's course is located approximately half an hour's drive north of Perth's city centre. The course was founded in the early 1970's by a group of golfers dissatisfied with the standard of public golf facilities in the northern suburbs, and the club has grown from strength to strength since then.
Set on 115 acres in the suburb of Banksia Grove, the course was designed by Bob Green and Murray Dawson and built to a high standard by the club's volunteers and sponsors, and its tree-lined fairways were opened on 14 March 1973, making it the first fully irrigated hole in Western Australia.
It is the quintessential parkland course, set in a tree-lined outback setting. With well-manicured tees, fairways and greens, it offers golfers a pure golfing experience. Although the terrain is slightly undulating, the fairways are generally flat and free of the bumps, mounds and unpredictable bounces that are common on links courses.
The course has hosted many tournaments in recent years. It hosted the Western Australian PGA Championship in 2003, which was won by local favourite Kim Felton. Since then, it has co-hosted the men's and women's first few rounds of the Australian Amateur Championship with the Lake Carignapo course.
