Course Introduction
Waimeri Beach Golf Club was established in 1932, in the 1960's and 1970's the Canterbury Board of Education owned the land and organised for Canterbury schools to plant pine trees around the course. Over time, the course became a testing ground for accurate tee shots and fast greens. The club purchased the land in 2000 and cleared the pines between 2007 and 2012, with considerable damage caused by the 2010/2011 earthquake. The club commissioned Kura Design Ltd to redesign the course to mitigate future earthquake damage and convert it into a links course.
The new course was opened in May 2013 With most of the old pine trees gone, multiple dune bunkers and large areas of wasteland, as well as gently undulating and fast greens, the course is now a true test of landing and skill. The course covers some 44 hectares and is relatively short by modern standards. However, with a par of 72, it has been carefully constructed with holes of varying lengths and superbly difficult hazards to avoid. The new layout is a challenge for players of all levels, but Baco golfers still enjoy testing their skills around wet areas, dangerous hazards and bunkers.
