Course Introduction
Hawke's Bay Golf Club (formerly known as Flaxmere Golf Club) is the youngest of the four major golf courses in the Bay area. The course is built on a 142-acre pumice land at the end of Valentine Road, 10 kilometers from the town center of Hastings, and was designed by Commander John Harris. The course is long, the holes are moderately undulating, and the course also has 37 bunkers and multiple water hazards.
The tranquil environment attracts many wildlife to join the members to experience the fun of the course. The song of honey finches can often be heard in the treetops, and pigeons gather on the ground, quietly watching the golfers leisurely passing by, which is a spectacular sight.
There are also wild ducks, plovers, herons, and noisy sandpipers, which often nest and breed in the water hazards around the course. In addition to wildlife, the course also has magnificent views, with Te Mata Peak in the east and the North Ruahines Range in the west.
