South Head Golf Club

Located just 50 minutes from Auckland's CBD, the course offers gentle rolling terrain and stunning views of Kaipara Harbour, making it the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The course offers a challenging yet fair game for golfers of all abilities. Known for its beautiful Kikuyu grass fairways and manicured greens, it is an all-weather course, thanks to its sandy base which drains very well.

The course may not be championship length, but the par-3 10th hole, 'Eagle's Nest', was mentioned in Jeff Barr's 1001 Golf Holes You Must Play Before You Die.

The holes are arranged in two 9-hole loops. The front nine features consecutive par-5s (with adjacent fairways in opposite directions), but both are overshadowed by the par-5 1-hole 8th, which is 504 metres from the back tees.

The back nine features six consecutive par 4s from 11th to 16th, followed by the par 5 17th, which is considered the easiest hole on the scorecard and offers a late birdie opportunity. Then, on the south headland, the short par 4 18th finishes perfectly, turning slightly to the right to lead to an undulating green that slopes from back to front.
