Course Introduction
Founded in 1893, the club is the fifth oldest in New Zealand and the second oldest in the North Island.
This links-style course offers a fair and challenging challenge for golfers of all abilities, with all players able to enjoy the sand, waterways and undulating dunes. The dunes run roughly parallel to nearby Turanganui Kiwa Beach (also known as Poverty Bay), and the fairways meander and undulate. Good drainage means the course is rarely closed due to bad weather. Its greens are often praised as some of the best in New Zealand.
While links golf courses are traditionally sparsely treed, the course has several carefully placed, very old and tall pine trees, which give the course a unique character and add to the challenge of keeping the course straight and narrow.
