Course Introduction
The course is built on gently rolling terrain alongside the Hutt River, with some holes offering slightly elevated terrain for an added challenge. The river is in play from the first hole, but the next eight holes are adjacent to it, with many shots ultimately heading towards Wellington Harbour.
The current layout was designed in the mid-1960s by British golf course architect John Harris, who previously designed the Royal Canberra Course and later collaborated with renowned Australian golfer Peter Thompson on the Wairakei Course near Taupo. He capitalized on the pristine landscape of the land, creating a picturesque course teeming with native birdlife.
The course is moderately challenging, utilizing natural obstacles to make them immediately apparent. Over the years, only a few artificial hazards have been added, a testament to the timeless design. Anthony Ilton-Maher set a course record of 63 on December 28, 2023, at the 45th Masters.
