The PETE DYE COURSE, officially opened on August 1, 2007, adheres to Pete Dye's distinctive design style and philosophy. The course features a variety of plants, thousands of railway sleepers moved from tracks, small and intriguing pot-shaped bunkers, and undulating fairways that present golfers with challenges beyond imagination.

One particularly creative feature is a line of train carriages winding alongside the fairway between the 18th tee and the green, leaving a strong impression.

Hole-by-Hole Overview of PETE DYE COURSE:

**Hole 1: 427 Yards, Par 4**

A formidable starting hole, allowing golfers to appreciate the design essence of the entire course. Features three distinctive hazards: sand pits, railway sleepers, and a classic layout. Precise tee shots are required to avoid the long narrow bunker on the left and the railway sleepers reinforced sand barrier on the right.

Near the green on the left, there are two sand pits, while the front, right, and rear sides have undulating terrain with low-flying ball areas. The green is higher on the right and lower on the left, making it optimal to tee off from the right side of the fairway.

**Hole 2: 137 Yards, Par 3**

An uphill, short-distance hole, challenging despite being a par 3. Players must hit the ball over a large sand barrier on the right and avoid the railway sleeper-guarded large sand trap on the left to reach the partially concealed green.

The green is surrounded by three sand pits, two on the left and one on the right. The green slopes from right to left, with a deceptive front area and steep terrain behind.

**Hole 3: 338 Yards, Par 4**

Moderate length but requires accurate tee shots, especially when cutting close to the ball. Golfers need to position their tee shots to the right of the large sand trap on the spacious fairway. Near the green, there are two fairway bunkers, with a medium-sized bunker on the right side of the fairway and a hazardous bunker in the middle on the left.

Apart from avoiding ball mishaps, players must also guard against three additional deep sand traps around the green—one on the right and two on the rear and right sides of the green. The horseshoe-shaped green demands precise ball control, making putting a significant challenge.

**Hole 4: 554 Yards, Par 5**

The green is about 20 meters higher than the fairway, allowing top players to reach it in two shots. However, average players need to land the ball in the middle of the fairway as both sides have large obstacles.

The real challenge lies in the second shot. If the ball doesn't reach the green, players must avoid a small lake on the right and a complex and mysterious pot-shaped bunker and rough on the left. Hitting the green from this area is extremely difficult as the left front of the green has a narrow fairway, the only path for attacking the green.

**Hole 5: 429 Yards, Par 4**

Although the length of Hole 5 is moderate, the four shots required must exceed the yardage on the scorecard. This is because the hole features a rise of over 15 meters from the tee to the green. The uphill dogleg to the right demands players to avoid a series of deep and steep sand traps and rough on the right side of the fairway.

Three consecutive deep sand traps surrounded by railway sleepers guard the green on the left, and there is also a deep sand trap on the right side of the green.

**Hole 6: 589 Yards, Par 5**

A relatively long par 5, requiring three long shots if players want to reach the green conventionally. The downhill tee shot tests the player's ability to hit over the multiple-sand-trap complex on the left side of the fairway while avoiding the sand traps on the right side of the landing area.

The second shot is particularly challenging, and players must be cautious to avoid the dangerous deep pit on the left side of the green. The green slopes from right to left, with two sand traps near the front left and right sides, providing protection to the green.

**Hole 7: 415 Yards, Par 4**

A moderate-length par 4, demanding accurate tee shots, ideally placed far from the tee to get as close to the green as possible. This uphill dogleg par 4 requires players to decide whether to hit towards the right from the tee to shorten the distance to the green or to hit to the left side of the fairway. Although hitting to the left is farther from the green, the narrow and leftward-sloping green makes this tee shot preferable.

Players must avoid the giant sand barrier on the right side of the fairway and the deep fairway bunker on the left side. The narrow green is located on a slope, requiring precise ball control.

**Hole 8: 312 Yards, Par 4**

Even seasoned players will be tested by this short-distance par 4. Players must give it their all to avoid the various obstacles on this short, uphill, dogleg par 4. The unique challenge is whether players should hit directly towards the green from the tee or play it safe and hit towards the fairway.

The entire right side of the hole is covered by numerous sand traps, deep sand pits, and rough. Players need to be extremely cautious, as even the most careful players must avoid a dangerous deep sand trap in the center of the landing area. Once the ball is in this sand trap, there is no hope of reaching the green.

**Hole 9: 175 Yards, Par 3**

A uphill par 3 with a large sand barrier and a undulating green, demanding accurate tee shots. The most significant challenge is precision in hitting the ball. The green slopes from right to left, with varying terrain around it. Players must hit from right to left, avoiding the giant sand barrier on the right side of the hole.

If the ball doesn't reach the green, the approach shot technique is put to the test. To achieve par, players must navigate the low-flying ball area surrounding the green with creative shot-making.

**Hole 10: 192 Yards, Par 3**

A downhill par 3 with considerable length, a small target, and a magnificent backdrop. The 10-meter downhill requires extremely accurate tee shots while avoiding the eight sand pits surrounding the green.

**Hole 11: 338 Yards, Par 4**

A challenging short-distance downhill par 4. Skilled players can reach the green in one, attacking the green directly. However, for the average player, a mistake will result in severe punishment. The hole features an almost 10-meter downhill fairway, allowing players to hit a long and accurate shot. If players can produce an accurate long shot, there's a chance of reaching the green. The landing area is advantageous for ball movement, making it easier to approach the green.

However, precise direction during the tee shot is more critical than hitting the ball far. With six sand pits on the right and five on the left, players must be cautious at every step. The green slopes from right to left, with only 12 meters in depth, surrounded by three low-flying ball areas and a deep sand pit.

**Hole 12: 425 Yards, Par 4**

Moderate length with some greens hidden between several mounds. Players must hit the ball to the optimal location from a slightly downhill position, avoiding a giant sand barrier on the left side of the fairway and two deep sand traps on the right side of the landing area. The fairway position is crucial because hitting from the left side of the fairway only reveals half of the green, while hitting from the right side provides a broader view.

However, hitting towards the green from the right side is more challenging. As the green slopes from left to right, there are two sand pits blocking the path from the right side of the fairway to the green. Additionally, protruding and sunken edges increase the difficulty, requiring players to master ball control skills to place the ball at the right height.

**Hole 13: 523 Yards, Par 5**

A moderately long par 5, the most challenging on the entire course, with obstacles on every shot from the tee to the green. The tee shot requires hitting a long-distance ball, flying over three sand pits on the left side of the fairway and avoiding the railway sleeper sand pit on the right side of the landing area. The second shot incorporates a giant "Himalayan sand pit," challenging players' skills.

Braver players may aim for the green with their second shot, but the ball must fly over the Himalayan sand pit, and at this point, the green is not visible. If players don't want to hit directly over the Himalayan sand pit on the second shot, they must carefully consider the landing position. Any point to the right of the fairway will obstruct the view of the green because three sand pits on the left side surround the green, and there is a low-flying ball area on the right.

**Hole 14: 338 Yards, Par 4**

A moderately long par 4, but with many obstacles, requiring two accurate shots to reach the green area. This tight dogleg par 4 requires hitting towards the right side of the fairway from the tee. Players must hit the ball over two large fairway sand pits and a giant sand barrier on the right side of the fairway. The green slopes from right to left, surrounded by six sand pits. Hitting towards the green from the right side of the fairway is ideal.

**Hole 15: 330 Yards, Par 4**

A downhill short par 4 dogleg tempting bold players to attack the green directly. However, if they violate the rules, they will be severely punished. The entire right area of the hole is covered by a giant railway sleeper sand barrier. Players tee off from a 10-meter uphill area, often hoping to hit the ball over this region.

On the left side of the landing area, there is a treacherous fairway railway sleeper sand pit, very close to the landing area. The front area of the green is open, but there is a deep sand pit on the left side and two deep sand pits on the right side.

**Hole 16: 183 Yards, Par 3**

This par 3 tests the player's swing strength and demands a perfect tee shot for scoring. When hitting the ball to a height of 7 meters, players can only see the front part of the green. The only safe area is a wave-shaped low-flying ball area on the left side of the green, and there are three deep sand pits on the right side and a hazardous pot-shaped sand pit behind.

**Hole 17: 512 Yards, Par 4**

This long par 4 tests whether players can get the ball into the green in two shots. The tee shot requires hitting a long-distance ball, flying over the sand barrier on the right side of the landing area and two sand pits on the left side. The second shot requires hitting the ball to the green. The green is situated on a slope, with three sand pits on the left side and a high-difficulty fairway low-flying ball area on the right side.

**Hole 18: 611 Yards, Par 5**

This final hole stands above both the Dye and PETE DYE COURSEs, being a long par 5 and one of the most challenging holes in all of South China. During the tee shot, players must hit the ball over a 20-meter deep canyon, landing in a plateau-shaped landing area with five sand pits on the left side. The second shot also requires hitting a long-distance ball, avoiding three sand pits on the left side of the fairway and a dangerous sand barrier on the right side. As the green slopes from right to left, the best approach is to hit towards the high green from the right side of the fairway. There is a deep pot-shaped sand pit in front of the green and two railway sleeper sand pits behind the green.
