Introduction to Laos golf courses
30 minutes drive from Vientiane city center (no golf cart, walking course)
One of the oldest golf courses in Laos
The altitude difference between the highest and lowest holes on the course is up to 35 meters. The fairways are gently undulating and most of the fairways are flat and easy to walk. There is water everywhere on the course, which can be distracting if you are not careful.
The most eye-catching hole, number 12, is surrounded by water. The teeing area and the left and right sides of the fairway are far away from the green. This hole is strategic because it is typical of the way the rest of the course is played. There is a front pool of water on the specific teeing area, but this is more of a psychological and cosmetic consideration than a strategic obstacle, as the distance to the obstacle is relatively small.
35 minutes drive from Vientiane city center
Close to Vientiane, wide fairways, and bunkers everywhere
The club opened in 2012 and is located about 12 kilometers northwest of Vientiane Wattay Airport, next to Tadmon Waterfall. The club is well developed, with wide fairways and few water hazards, providing a pleasant playing experience for BaiGolf golfers. Bunkers are the main hindrance at Mekong Golf Resort, and one bunker in particular stands out, similar to the 6th hole at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, with a bunker in the middle.
Some fairways narrow a little, and most fairways are lined with natural vegetation and hundreds of native trees. Bunkers are everywhere, protecting the greens and key locations of some landing areas. With the careful care and professional guidance of the greenkeepers, the grass grows lushly, and the condition of the tees and greens is consistent with that of more expensive and upscale resorts in California, such as La Quinta.
35 minutes drive from downtown Vientiane
The most historic and well-known golf course in Laos, the closest to the capital city of Vientiane
Lake View Golf Club is located in Vientiane and is a modern resort club. The designers cleverly used hills and civil art to transform the flat wilderness into an exciting and challenging golf course.
Vientiane Lake View Golf Club was named the best course in Laos at the first World Golf Expo in 2020. Elbow Plate radiates multiple landmarks and is easily accessible. Today, the course features artificial lakes dotted around the holes, and undulating greens surrounded by steep bunkers make for difficult approach and ensure sub-par scores. The course is meticulously maintained, using the latest paspalum grass species to keep the fairways pristine year-round.
One hour drive from downtown Vientiane
Top-notch course built for the Southeast Asian Games, with large water areas and numerous water hazards
This beautiful course has 27 holes reserved for the Laotian 25th Southeast Asian Games in Vientiane, waiting for guests to experience. Located about 10 miles northeast of the city, the course is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The area is ideal for a vacation as it is surrounded by the idyllic flora and fauna of the Laotian forests.
The water features around some of the holes in the layout are extensive on this golf course. One of the largest bodies of water is over 1,000 yards long and is surrounded by seven holes between the B and C courses. While the total elevation of the 27 holes varies, the average elevation is about 15 feet above sea level. Some greens may appear to be main island greens with views of the surrounding waters, but are actually peninsula greens.
25 minutes drive from downtown Vientiane
The only course in Laos with a par 6 hole – Hole 22
The course is located in a duty-free zone 16 km outside of Vientiane and 1 km from the Mekong River that separates Thailand and Laos. The course is mostly flat, with artificial mounds, water features, and intricate clusters of sharp-angled bunkers as the main challenge. Most holes have mature trees, flowering plants, and red grass waters. Full paspalum turf ensures good playing conditions all year round.
The East Course passes through a series of lakes and forest areas, with water hazards protecting the greens and club choice important when hitting the ball. The West Course is more open, but has more bunkers and undulating fairways. The facilities at Long Vien are complete and the clubhouse is very modern.
2.5 hours drive from Vientiane
The best course in Laos, suitable for golfers of all levels
The club is in a unique location, with views of Nam Ngo Lake, known as the “Lake Geneva of Asia”, and a highland forest of palm trees and pines 1,000 to 2,000 feet above sea level. Nam Ngo Lake is an hour’s drive northeast of Vientiane, and the golf course is a little further south on the lake.
The course is nearly a thousand feet above sea level, winding between towering palm trees and pines. The course is long and will test the ability of golfers of all levels. The course is designed to complement the surroundings, and the amazing views are enough to make golfers play on this excellent golf course.
The course has many restaurants and entertainment venues, 24-hour service and an on-site casino, so there are plenty of things to do after enjoying the tranquility of the 18 holes. No wonder this course is rated the best course in Laos. This is a must-play course.
You need to take the high-speed rail to get there
The largest world-class golf course in Laos
The club is located about 6 kilometers west of the city center on the south bank of the Mekong River. It is surrounded by tropical mountains with dense trees. The entire course has little elevation change, except for the 18th hole. As the terrain of the course is gently undulating, it is easy to walk on it. The fairways are relatively new, and the average width of the landing area is 35 to 40 yards. The course has bunkers to protect most greens, and fairway bunkers can be seen everywhere, which also affects the location layout of the tee boxes of all holes, except the 14th hole and the par 3 hole.
The fairways in Luang Prabang are unparalleled, and players can really enjoy the feeling of adventure when playing the first 9 holes away from the Mekong River. After conquering the par 3 17th hole, players will go uphill to the fairway of the 18th hole and finally approach the clubhouse.

③ Taxis are very convenient in urban Laos, but it is still not very convenient to call a taxi in a slightly remote place. Taxi-hailing apps include Indrive, Loca, Kokkok, Xanh SM Laos, etc.

③ When meeting others, Laotians are accustomed to performing the Namaste salute, that is, putting their hands together and raising their palms. When facing monks, royal families, elders or superiors with higher status, you should place your palms in front of your forehead; when facing juniors, subordinates and other people of lower status, your palms should be placed under your chin; when facing peers or ordinary people, place your palms in front of your face.
④ You need to take off your shoes when entering a temple, and make sure you are dressed neatly and appropriately. The upper body should not be exposed to the shoulders and navel, and the lower body should not be exposed above the knees.
⑤ Monks are highly respected in Laos, so be sure to keep a proper distance. Women in particular should not approach or touch monks, nor should they indirectly contact them through objects. When women hand items to monks, they should first place the items on the table, and then the monks will take them away.
