Okinawa Food Guide
Ryukyu Mixed Stir-fry
Called "Champuru" in the Okinawan dialect, it means "mixed." Common ingredients include bitter melon, onions, carrots, bean sprouts, pork, tuna, and eggs. As the name suggests, it involves stir-frying various ingredients together.
Taco Rice
Taco rice, another fusion of the "Champuru" culture, is a unique Okinawan delicacy that emerged from the transformation of American food culture, influenced by Mexican cuisine, into a unique local dish.
Sea grapes
Boasting an addictive, popping flavor, they're named for their grape-like shape and are also known as green caviar. Rich in minerals and hyaluronic acid, sea grapes are a rare beauty ingredient. While delicious eaten plain, they're also great in salads and mixed vegetables.
Peanut Tofu
During the Ryukyu Dynasty, peanut tofu was considered a nutritious and precious delicacy. It's made from peanut juice and yam residue, boiled in water and then solidified into tofu-like chunks. Despite its name, it doesn't contain soybeans.
Okinawa Tonkatsu (Pork Katsu)
Also known as "Okinawa Dongpo Pork" or "Okinawa Braised Pork," Okinawa pork is a dish that sometimes incorporates alcoholic beverages like sake or awamori to enhance its flavor, creating a unique flavor.
Things to Note About Okinawa Golf Courses
1. Beware of strong winds.
Okinawa's winter climate is mild, more pleasant than mainland Japan. However, this season is often accompanied by sharp northerly winds. While the weather is relatively stable in the morning, strong winds in the afternoon shake the trees, bringing a chill. In these weather conditions, BaiGolf golfers often choose to wear short-sleeved shirts and training clothes.
The exceptional skills of Okinawa's professional golfers are largely due to their ability to hone their skills in this challenging environment, mastering a variety of teeing techniques.
Okinawa's wind direction varies; it swirls through the air, moves through the forest, and influences the movement of flags. Golfers observe these natural cues to determine wind direction and calculate the optimal teeing strategy. Playing in this radically different environment is not only a challenge but also a unique pleasure.
2. Tee Times
In December and January, sunset in Okinawa falls after 5:30 PM, giving migratory golfers ample time to complete their rounds before sunset.
In winter, the last rounds on Okinawa's golf courses typically end around noon, ensuring a graceful end to your golfing experience before sunset.
Sunrise and sunset times in Okinawa Prefecture:
December: Average sunrise time is 7:10, sunset time is 17:40.
January: Average sunrise time is 7:17, sunset time is 18:00.
