Golf Tips in Thailand
⛳️Cultural Customs: Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country. Show respect and courtesy to Buddha statues, temples, and monks. Do not touch Buddha statues or monks, do not point at them while speaking or taking photos, and do not wear revealing or unclean clothing into temples. Thais consider the head the most noble part of the body and the feet the least noble; therefore, do not touch someone's head, do not point at others or objects with your feet, and do not put your feet on tables or point them at others.
⛳️Transportation: Thailand drives on the left. Look left and right carefully when crossing the street. Avoid riding in unlicensed motorcycles or tuk-tuks. If renting a car, have a valid driver's license and insurance, and obey traffic rules. Road traffic can be congested, speeds can be high, and traffic management can sometimes be lax. Therefore, tourists should drive and walk with extra caution.
⛳️Food: Choose clean and hygienic restaurants or food stalls. Avoid eating raw, cold, or expired food. Drink plenty of bottled or boiled water, and avoid ice water or beverages.
⛳️Fragments: Take good care of your passport, cash, bank cards, mobile phone, and other valuables. Do not show or lend them to strangers, do not trust strangers' sales pitches or invitations, and do not travel alone in crowded places or at night.
⛳️Personal Safety: Protect your health and safety. Promptly prevent and treat any illnesses or injuries, such as heatstroke, diarrhea, or insect bites. Avoid contact with animals or people who may carry viruses or bacteria, such as wild animals, blood products, or sex workers.
Important Notes:
1. Entry: There are two entry channels: a green channel for non-declared items and a red channel for declared goods. Items requiring declaration are personal belongings exceeding a reasonable quantity for personal use or carry-on items with a total value exceeding 20,000 Thai Baht (approximately 635 USD). Tourists who fail to declare prohibited or restricted items will be punished, prosecuted, and have their items confiscated. They may also be fined up to four times the value of the undeclared items plus tax, or imprisoned for up to 10 years, or both.
2. According to Thai regulations, the permitted duty-free items brought into Thailand are: 1 kg of sweet wine or spirits, 50 cigars, 250 grams of tobacco or 200 cigarettes, and 5 rolls of film or 3 rolls of movie film. (Note: If the items belonging to several people are entrusted to one person for safekeeping, it will be considered an excess.) If the quantity exceeds the limit, you must contact customs officials at the red channel to declare it. If you are carrying excess items and do not wish to pay taxes, you must abandon them at the customs checkpoint; otherwise, you will be subject to customs duties. If you evade taxes or refuse to pay fines, you may be prosecuted according to law.
3. In addition, the total amount of foreign currency brought into Thailand must not exceed US$15,000 and must be declared. Failure to declare or making a false declaration is a criminal offense.
4. Regulations on items taken out of the country: If a traveler carries expensive laptops, photographic equipment, watches, etc., out of the country and plans to bring them back into Thailand, they must declare them to customs. When declaring, you must prepare two sets of photos of the items so that you can use the documents issued by customs to prove that they are personal items when returning to Thailand. If you forget to declare, you will be subject to customs duties.
5. Items such as Buddha statues, firearms, and animal and plant products are restricted and can only be carried within permitted quantities or with a permit from the relevant government department.
6. If the mobile phone network does not work, it can be by purchasing local SIM card at the airport upon arrival in Thailand.
7. Most payments are in cash, specifically Thai Baht.
8. Hotels can provide adapters if needed.
9. Tuk-tuks and taxis are notorious for overcharging; negotiate the price beforehand.
10. Please do not smoke in the hotel's non-smoking rooms; smoking will result in heavy fines. Smoking is permitted in designated areas outside the lobby.
11. Always bring a power bank; there are no shared power banks in Thailand.
12. Keep some change in your pocket at all times during free time; taxi drivers generally do not give change.
13. Do not engage with strangers, do not gamble, and do not smoke in public places.
14. Protect yourself from the sun; bring a sun umbrella, sunscreen, and sun-protective clothing.
15. Bring cold medicine; it is very hot outside and very cold inside, making it easy to catch a cold.
Thailand Golf Tips:
1. In Thailand, caddie service is generally 1:1. Tips for caddies typically start at 500 baht per 18 holes.
2. A golfer can hire multiple caddies; pay the caddie fees and tips as required.
3. Thai people are very friendly but also value etiquette. Once inside the golf club, please be mindful of your behavior. Do not speak loudly or act rudely, otherwise you may be disqualified from playing and your fee will not be refunded.
4. Do not touch Thai people's heads, do not point at anything with your feet, and never give coins as tips.
5. Besides most upscale hotels and restaurants adding a 10% service charge to the bill, there are other places where tipping is expected. This is not mandatory, but rather a matter of etiquette. Also, when tipping, do not give coins, as coins are for beggars. Note that the minimum tip should be 20 baht.
