Hello everyone, I’m Mr. Zhangfrom BaiGolf Thailand.

Many Chinese visitors come to Thailand specifically to play golf. I have lived here for six years and usually hit the course with friends about twice a month. On weekends, you often hear familiar Chinese conversations all around the course; golf has become an integral part of enjoying life here. Today, let’s take a look at the golf scene in Thailand—a true golfer's paradise.

Characteristics of Golf in Thailand

There are numerous golf courses within a 30-to-60-minute drive from the capital, Bangkok.

The terrain is mostly flat rather than mountainous, meaning there are fewer "Out of Bounds" (OB) areas, though this is balanced by the presence of many ponds scattered across the courses.

Thailand has a tropical climate with temperatures exceeding 30°C year-round, so most players prefer to finish their round and head home before the sun gets too hot. Tee times start before sunrise; I usually tee off between 6:00 and 7:30 AM, finishing as early as 10:00 AM or by noon at the latest. Consequently, courses often offer lower rates for later tee times (e.g., after 11:00 AM). Those concerned about sunburn can also opt for night golf.

One Player, One Caddie, One Cart

A unique feature of golf in Thailand is the caddie and cart system. Caddies handle tasks like handing you clubs, holding umbrellas, and attending to individual needs. They also provide information on the distance to the pin and how the ball will roll on the green, offering comprehensive and attentive service.

If your shot veers to the right, a caddie might advise, "Aim for the second cup on the left."

However, the quality of caddies varies; some lack professionalism—perhaps getting distracted by their phones and missing your shot, or not knowing the distance and having to ask another caddie. Some may become increasingly impatient with your mistakes (they sometimes even place bets among themselves). Caddies range in age from junior high students to middle-aged women.

If the service is satisfactory, it is customary to tip 500 Thai Baht at the end of the round.

Many courses require the use of a golf cart during busy weekends. Most golf courses allow carts to be driven onto the fairways.

Unique Features of Thai Golf Courses

Golf courses in Thailand are home to various animals, such as dogs, monkeys, and large lizards.

Water monitor lizards are widespread across Southeast Asia and can even be spotted in large city parks.

Reflecting on Life Through Golf

On a vast expanse of land dedicated to the sport, you swing with all your might, aiming to get the ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible. While the rules may be complex, golf is ultimately a simple sport. The actions of hitting the ball and sinking it into the hole are similar to those in other sports, yet playing in such an extraordinary setting surrounded by nature holds an instinctive appeal.

Golf is a sport that people of all ages—from children to the elderly—can enjoy. It also helps expand your social and professional network. Furthermore, golf reveals a person's character. In some ways, the game mirrors our daily lives—such as devising a strategy for the course or refining your swing—but the biggest difference is that no one blames you, no matter how many times you fail (though a caddie might... *lol*).

I hope more people get to experience this joy. Let’s go play golf in Thailand!
