Le Golf National
Le Golf National, located just a few kilometers away from central Versailles, was built to become the home of the Open de France, which took place there for the first time in 1991. Architect Hubert Chesneau created the 18-hole course Albatros with the aim to be able to receive great championships with ideal conditions for the players and spectators. The course has traits of a links course while demanding aggressive and bold on-target- playing due to the water hazards and bunkers. While Albatros is known for its superior condition and strategically demanding layout, the 18-hole Aigle Course offers a gratifying game for all levels of golfers thanks to the wide fairways, few bunkers and very good greens on softly undulating grounds. The third course at Le National, 9-hole course Oiselet, is ideal for training.
Les Aisses
Situated in Sologne, a region mostly famous for its fauna and flora, Les Aisses Golf is composed by an 18-hole course and a 9-hole course. The 27 holes meander amidst the moors, ponds and woods which make the courses varied, enjoyable and challenging.
The two courses are complementary and accessible to golfers of any level.
Dinard Golf Club
Although located in Saint-Briac-sur-Mer, Dinard Golf Club was founded by a small colony of British residents living in Dinard at the end of the 19th century. Having returned from service in India and Egypt, these army officers and their families enjoyed life on the Emerald Coast and set about organizing things so that they could play their favorite sports. This era marked the beginning of sea bathing, the arrival of the railway and a general desire for a new lifestyle. They created France’s first tennis club, developed the sport of sailing and began to search for a suitable site for a golf course.
Designed by Tom Dunn in 1887, this course is the second oldest in France after the Pau Golf Club (1856). Laid out alongside France’s Emerald Coast, players enjoy sea views from all 18 holes, each of which has its own individual name (the dog’s paw, the complete disaster, etc.) This course is neither long nor tiring, so it may deceive the unwary into thinking that it is easy, but the final score tells the real story. This course is more tricky than difficult, with its sandy soil, undulating fairways, small, high, very fast greens and many bunkers; it also has very few trees but plenty of broom and gorse bushes.
Saint Malo Golf Club
Saint Malo Golf Resort, a 27 hole golf course designed in 1986 by Hubert Chesneau, also architect of the “Golf National”, host to the French Open.
Set in the Mesnil forest; ancient hunting grounds of Robert Surcouf, and surrounded by the vast Mirloup lake, the course boasts spectacular views and plenty of water hazards (13).
The course is maintained to Championship levels by Paul Bontemps (7 years Director of Greenkeeping Studies – Neuvic)
A good challenge for better players with a slope of 140, the course remains accessible to all players with judiciously positionned tees; the bogey is easy but the birdie is tough!
Barrière Deauville Golf Club
Opened in 1929, the Golf Barrière de Deauville is recognized as one of the most beautiful courses in France. The architects Tom Simpson and Henry Cotton designed three nine-hole courses, offering every player a range of golfing pleasure in a 70 hectare setting. The magnificently maintained Golf Barrière de Deauville, with its many views across sea and countryside, is a genuine championship golf course, and has in the past hosted the French Open, the Ebel Match Play and the Air France Madame. Its many facilities (practice greens, putting green, chipping green, pitching green, practice bunker) offer many ways to improve one's game all year round. In the Club-House, the true heart of the distinguished Golf Barrière de Deauville, the huge picture windows open onto the most delightful views.
